This look is heavily inspired by the idea of “Cape Cod.” Cape Cod has been a running joke in my family for as long as I can remember. It was always my mom’s way of telling me that I should be ladylike, feminine, and classy – like someone from Cape Cod, although no one in my family has ever been there. It’s a made up style and culture in our minds, but I guess you can say it closely aligns with preppy.
I’ve styled a a classic button down shirt, pearl necklace, and a big bow together because nothing better captures the essence of “Cape Cod.” Entering college, I didn’t even know that wearing bows was a popular trend. Leaving college, I’m sporting the biggest one on campus. I really don’t think there is any sweeter hairstyle than this, and if that’s what I’m trying to achieve with the “Cape Cod” look, then I think I’ve hit a home run.
I really do enjoy the preppy style. Although I will draw the line at brands such as Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines. Lilly is just too bright and the patterns can be so overwhelming and confusing. To the same effect, Vineyard Vines is just too stereo typical and cookie cutter for my liking. But I must admit that the little whale is so cute!
